Funding
Outdoor School Funding from the State of Oregon
Outdoor School funding is available for 5th and 6th-grade students. The hybrid programs offered this year for the “Unearthing Nature’s Connections” Fall in the Field satisfy these funding requirements. Visit the Oregon Extension Website for more information or contact Amy Hoffman, Southern Oregon Regional Coordinator, at amy.hoffman@oregonstate.edu.
Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) Funding
The Oregon Forest Resources Institute is dedicated to advancing public understanding of forests, forest management and forest products, and encouraging sound forestry through landowner education.
OFRI recognizes the effectiveness of field studies and wishes to support classroom teachers’ forest education efforts. OFRI may be able to provide transportation funds, on a case-by-case basis, to classes whose opportunities to participate in such forestry-related studies are otherwise limited.
The theme for Fall in the Field 2020, “Nature’s Tales: Stories of Change and Resilience,” includes various lessons that will educate students about forest ecology. Some of the topics these lessons will cover include fire ecology within forest environments, forest management, resource diversity within a forest, and abiotic effects on a forest ecosystem.
The online application for OFRI funding can be found here. Additional information can be found on the OFRI Website.
Please note that OFRI funds may not be used if the program is already being funded by Outdoor School funding from the state of Oregon.
The following are the 2020 prices for each program offered by Fall in the Field:
- Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument Day Program: $45 per class
- Rogue River Preserve Day Program: $5 per person
- Residential Program: $22.50 per person plus a $20 group use fee
- Hybrid Program Prices: The sum of one Monument day program and one residential program
Residential Program Cost Example: A group of 30 people (includes teachers, students, and chaperones) would pay $771.45 ($22.50 per person x 30 people + $20 day use fee + %11 SOU fee = $675 + $20 + $76.45 = $771.45).
Hybrid Program Cost Example: A group of 30 people (includes teachers, students, and chaperones) would pay $821.40 (Residential program + Monument day program + 11% SOU fee = $695 + $45 + $81.40 = $821.40).
Please note our programs are subject to an 11% SOU processing fee. Fall in the Field is a not-for-profit program.
